Santos Henarejos

Focusing down and cutting away is what I see in this editorial piece by Henarejos. In a sense that the restrictions on typography are not just in the typeface choice, but also a rigid rule of using only 3 pt sizes throughout (with exception to the cover).

This is something Vignelli talks about in his Canon with great passion and certainty. That to effectively communicate and maintain the aesthetic quality, a typographer need only use 2 or 3 pt sizes; beyond that variation and diversity, emphasis and hierarchy can come from type weight and style.

Having the discipline to maintain a level of effectiveness and also self control over ones ego is something that designers have to deal with. Once that can be found and the ego is entirely inflated they can have consistent discipline and freedom to walk around in the world of effective design. I hope to reach that point one day.
