Garry Barker : Contextual Guidance #1

In preparation for the briefing tomorrow, Ben and myself have a had a look at the sources Garry provided us in the e-mail. This should shed some light on his tastes and visions of style.

The visual style and production of the publications is the interesting thing about these books. The type of bind is varied between issues, as well as the art direction of each. The content of this first example is not print based, it is more of a collection or artefacts, I assume that is not what Garry has in mind.

The over arching theme that is recognisable is the traditional typegraphy, serif typefaces and justified type for headers. It would seem that as an enthusiast in print and print making, the concept he wants to achieve is that of traditional printing methods.

The diversity of style may suggest that Garry does not have an explicit design direction he want to achieve, but instead wants to see what we can come up with.

The 3 main sections of the book; his work, thoughts and quotes from commentators and the publishing arm will structure the format decisions made through the design process.
