Researching into the listed building and the 'Heritage at Risk' scheme has brought about some ideas for promotion and a potential informative range. There are hundreds of buildings in the surrounding cities, townships and coutryside in Yorkshire that are under threat of decay. While Tv shows have been made to raise awareness to them, nothing has been done to target a wider audience beyond that of people of have a natural concern for it and seek the informatino out.
Publicatons such as:
- Behind the Veneer
- Built to Last?
- Manchester: The Warehouse Legacy
- One Great Workshop
- Storehouses of Empire
...are a few of publications that have been made. However they do not grasp the attention of a wider audience, that may well care, but simply do not know it. THey are conceptually lacking and simply just exist, rather than make an impact.
The Proposition
I am proposing that a potential brief lies in raising awareness to some fo the local heritage sites in Yorkshire for the public to see. It will not be a high end promotion campaign, but instead aim to conceptually place itself within the cities of Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield in an effort to make people stop and look for a while.
This awareness will most likely be a gurilla approch, posting up posters and creating cheap to produce booklets and fliers. My own passion within design about clarity of message and objectivity will be called upon to make sure the information is accessible and understood by my audience.
The potential for this brief is broad, ranging accross the countries major sites of heritage inculding London. I think this will be a hugely benefitial brief should I choose to do it.
