Cancún Debate : Poster Development

Fine Art Yearbook : Cover Mocks

Fine Art Yearbook : Quicksand Typeface

The typeface Estilo that Liam found needs to purchased before we can show them a quality use of it. However we have sourced another typeface which is similar called Quicksand. It has some interesting features on the Q the tail of the R and has a nice consistency across letters such as K X & Y. The uppercase is what we will most likely be using as it is reminiscent of the Turner prize book the Fine Art lot showed us. I usually use fairly regular typefaces, but the use of either Estilo or Quicksand is working appropriately.

Cancún Publication in the Post

So I have sent the publication to be printed by lulu. However I have sent them a revised copy of the document. Instead of having coloured elements throughout the publication I have replaced them with black through to white gradients. This is because, after looking at some of the old 3rd years context books it is apparent that the colour prints result in the black ink looking as though it has been spot UV-ed. Not the look I was going to as there is so much black.

So, I will be receiving 6 black and white copies of the publication.  The black and white print outs do not have the same varnished effect and come out very nicely, especially the rulers, of which there are many in this publication.

So now we play the waiting game!

Discussion Events : Lift off?

Ok, I am starting this project rather optimistically.  I would early love to make this happen and be able to print before hand in, but really I do not see it happening, what with making sure everything is neat and tidy. Worth a shot though!

Therefore please understand if this falls short of completion, let alone lift off.  It is something I have realised provokes a lot of passion and emotion with me am annoyed that I had not un-earthed it earlier.  So, here we go...

If I cannot get it done for hand in I will do it during the final show prep time anyway, so either way it will get done. Huzza.

Cancún Debate : Printed Mock

When I printed the mock I noticed some ghosting of block colours on the ‘Building City Walls’ spread.  I knew why it had done it but didn’t know how to stop it from happening.  Basically I have used the multiply blending option to create a colour inside to the white text.
I tried to make the alterations to stop this from happening but couldn’t figure it out.  Eventually I had to call in Mike who was also a bit stumped.  He then remembered something he had tried before, involving converting type into a graphic image, then expanding the compound path, grouping the two images and then making a new compound path.  This worked and we had a little high five moment of success.  So that was good to learn something as valuable as overlaying block colour onto white text.  I can see this happening in the future.

Fine Art Yearbook : Final Proof

We are all very happy with the current finalising proof.  Can't wait to see it in colour.  The Fine Art reps and Sheila are very pleased with it which is great stuff.  If anything we are now just going to be tidying up small typographic details before preparing the final document.
